Steeped in Legacy: Shea Marne Luxury Collection Celebrates Black Media, Entrepreneurship & Community

By Shea Marne Luxury Collection | Community, Entrepreneurship & Black Media

Tomorrow, I’m excited to be part of a special gathering that brings together Black excellence, entrepreneurship, community leadership and the legacy of Black-owned media. Shea Marne Luxury Collection is proud to be vending at Steeped in Legacy, the High Tea presented by The Washington Informer and The AFRO-American Newspapers. For us, this event is about more than vending. It is about showing up for the institutions that show up for our communities, supporting the businesses that keep our neighborhoods thriving, and celebrating the people who continue to educate, empower and lead. As a former producer at WOL, I understand firsthand the importance of Black media. I know that our local Black newspapers, radio stations and other media outlets do more than deliver news. They connect our communities, amplify our voices, highlight our achievements and create space for stories that might otherwise go untold. That is why participating in this event is especially meaningful to me. It reflects the values at the heart of Shea Marne Luxury Collection: excellence, connection, entrepreneurship and community support.

A High Tea Celebrating Black Excellence

Steeped in Legacy brings together community leaders, accomplished women, entrepreneurs and supporters for an occasion centered on leadership, achievement and the enduring importance of Black institutions. The partnership between The Washington Informer and The AFRO represents the power of collaboration between two historic Black-owned news organizations. Their work reminds us why it is important to preserve our stories, celebrate our leaders and invest in the institutions that serve our communities. For Shea Marne Luxury Collection, being part of this gathering is an opportunity to connect with attendees, introduce our brand to new customers and celebrate the shared commitment to Black excellence.

Why Supporting Black Media Matters to Me

My appreciation for Black media comes from experience.

As a former producer at WOL, I saw the value of having media platforms that understand our neighborhoods, recognize our leaders and speak directly to the experiences of our people. Black media has long provided a place for community conversations, local news, cultural programming, entrepreneurship and public affairs.

Our media institutions document the moments that shape our lives. They spotlight small businesses, introduce us to emerging leaders, celebrate cultural achievements and keep important conversations alive.

They also create a historical record for future generations.

When we support Black media, we help sustain the organizations that have carried our stories through changing times. That support can take many forms: subscribing to a newspaper, advertising a business, attending an event, sponsoring a program, sharing a story or tuning in to Black radio.

Supporting Black media cannot stop at saying we need it. We must demonstrate that commitment through our participation, patronage and resources.

That is why I am proud to support gatherings that recognize the value of Black journalism and bring our community together.

Supporting Black Media and Black Business Go Hand in Hand

As an entrepreneur, I understand that building a business requires more than a great product or a beautiful storefront. It takes visibility, relationships, customer loyalty and a community willing to support the people who are building something meaningful.

The same principle applies to Black media.

When we support Black-owned newspapers, radio stations and businesses, we help create opportunities for our institutions and entrepreneurs to continue serving our communities.

We can put that commitment into action by:

  • Reading and subscribing to Black-owned newspapers.

  • Listening to Black radio and sharing local programming.

  • Advertising with Black media when promoting our businesses and organizations.

  • Shopping with Black-owned businesses, both online and in person.

  • Attending community events that celebrate leadership and entrepreneurship.

  • Encouraging the next generation to explore journalism, broadcasting, communications and business ownership.

Every purchase, subscription, referral and meaningful connection can help strengthen our community.

At Shea Marne Luxury Collection, we believe that supporting one another is part of building a lasting legacy.

Showing Up Is Part of the Legacy

As I prepare for this special gathering, I am thinking about more than business. I am thinking about the people who built our media institutions, the professionals who continue to serve our communities and the responsibility we share to keep those institutions moving forward.

My experience at WOL helped me appreciate the importance of having platforms where our voices matter. Being part of this event gives me another opportunity to put that appreciation into action.

I am grateful for opportunities to celebrate Black media, connect with fellow entrepreneurs and introduce more people to Shea Marne Luxury Collection.

We cannot expect our institutions to thrive if we do not support them. We cannot celebrate Black entrepreneurship without creating opportunities for Black businesses. And we cannot preserve the legacy of Black media without investing in its future.

For me, that is what being Steeped in Legacy means: honoring those who came before us, supporting those doing the work today and helping create a stronger foundation for those who will follow.

I look forward to connecting with the community and celebrating an occasion that recognizes the power of Black leadership, Black media and Black entrepreneurship.
